Making a claim

Making a vet fee claim couldn’t be simpler for Pet Protect policyholders and, thanks to their customer portal, you’re able to follow the progress of your claim at every stage.

  • 1. Claim

After logging into the user-friendly Pet Portal and answering a few questions, you can easily submit and track a claim.

  • 2. Vet completion

Pet Protect then waits to hear from your vet what treatments have been provided and how much they cost.

  • 3. Assessment

With this information, Pet Protect confirms the claim as received and moves to assessment. This stage typically takes five days but may take longer if more information is needed.

  • 4. Results

Once the claim has been fully processed and assessed, Pet Protect will contact you to confirm the outcome.

  • 5. Reimbursement

If your claim has been accepted, Pet Protect will proceed with reimbursement. This can be made either to you or directly to your vet.

For third party liability and other claims, you simply need to download a form from the Pet Portal and send it to Pet Protect.

Other things to consider

Changes to your premium

There are several factors that will affect the cost of your insurance premium when you first take out your pet insurance policy. These include:

  • Tick Icon

Age: younger pets typically have lower premiums.

  • Tick Icon

Breed: certain breeds are more prone to specific health conditions, which can affect the cost.

  • Tick Icon

Location: vet costs can vary by region.

  • Tick Icon

Coverage level: higher coverage plans naturally come with a higher premium.

Your Pet Protect insurance policy premium is fixed for 12 months and is reviewed annually. It will only change for the following reasons:

  • Tick Icon

A change in the general costs for the running of our business.

  • Tick Icon

A change in the scheme performance or claims experience.

  • Tick Icon

Changes to your circumstances, for example, the age of your pet, your claims history or an address change.

  • Tick Icon

Any change in the Insurance Premium Tax (IPT) rate.

Ways to pay your premium

Pet Protect offers clients two flexible payment methods; either one single payment each year or in monthly instalments.

Understanding insurance excess

The insurance excess is the amount you will need to pay toward the treatment for each condition you make a claim on.

Upon renewal of your Pet Protect insurance policy, after your cat turns 10 or your dog turns 8 (5 for some breeds), an additional 25% of the remaining claim amount will be added to your standard excess.

Contact Pet Protect

If you want to speak to a member of the Pet Protect team, you can contact them via their on-site live chat or by filling in their 'email us' form online.

If you'd prefer to talk to someone over the phone, you can call their customer service team on 0345 602 4797. Lines are open Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5:30 pm.
